View Full Version : David named one of New York's most loathsome

04-01-2004, 10:04 PM

He's not even from New York, so I'm not sure how he made the list, but New York Press has named David Cross #19 on its list of the 50 most loathsome New Yorkers. They didn't have anything even remotely nice to say.

Of course, I totally disagree with those assholes. The link goes to the beginning of the article, David is on page 6.

JuanBallsac here.

Jesus Christ those pricks need to beget some sort of life. I bet they jerk off to gay pornography, and their creepy uncles used to fondle their nuts at Thanksgiving. Basically they agree with all those brain dead hillbillys from Let America Laugh. NASTY!!

Fuck their Moms.
Gotta run........late for bible study.

Even if you think David Cross is condescending (which he is, at times) how can you deny that he is genuinely funny?

If that column was a person, here's how it would explain what it said about David: "because you're not mainstream, and we don't get you, you seem like maybe you might think you're cooler than us, so we're going to preemptively criticize you for making fun of other people (just like us) who don't get you".

It's like when comedians make fun of fat people, and everyone in the audience or watching at home, etc. who has body image problems, or who is overweight, or who has ever been called "fat" secretly gets a little offended. The writer at NYP obviously didn't think David was funny, or didn't get him, and therefore saw a little bit of himself in the people David made fun of. Insecure bastard.

At first I thought they were trying to be funny, like something Maxim or Spin would do. But it seems like they genuinely loathe (mostly devoid of humor) all these people. I bet they are the type of people that don't "get" Mr. Show.

Christ. Get off it New York Press. Besides, how the hell is David a New Yorker, anyway? Doesn't he live in L.A. via Georgia (and maybe Boston).

I wanted to send this in an email to the Editor, but it wouldn't work. So I figured, at the very least, I'd preach to the choir.
So, let us rant together brothers and sisters! And if anyone can actually get thru to the editor, have him/her give a message to the writer: Get a sense of humor before you die alone.

hahahah...I kill me.

i guess he is a new yorker since he has been living there for the past few years. i dont think he would classify himself as a Georgian, even though thats what he is technically. Oh yeah, those people suck for writing that. But without those wonderful well-informed human beings being dumb assholes, Cross wouldnt have much of a show for us to laugh at. They're just feeding the fire.

I hate New York. New York can suck my ass. I find it amusing how they can cite Cross for being condescending, while flinging smart-ass shit around like monkeys at the fucking zoo.

You can practically *smell* the jealousy wafting from their review. Dickholes...

um, this isnt that big of a deal, folks. the article is obviously retarced, especially since it's in the "news" paper so should we be even taking it seriously?

for real, get david's cock out of your collective mouths and share a hearty laugh.

I LITERALLY just shit my pants.

What I think is interesting is the magazine's accusation of Cross's act evincing a kind of artificial or superficial "New York" condescension or dry attitude. The supposition is that no one anywhere else in the country is able to understand dry or ironic humor.

Think about it: they accuse him of posturing himself as a New Yorker, and then shoot him down for not actually being from New York. But implicit in this attitude is the notion that a dry, ironic sensibility is intrinsically New York and that it is impossible anywhere else in the country.

"Well, of course the bumpkins in Little Rock don't like him!" they say.

They're the ones being condescending. Cross knows something they don't know: smart people exist all over the country, and the war of people who appreciate smart comedy vs. people who prefer carrot-top are going on everywhere.

That's what I see going on in Let America Laugh. I don't see Cross and his cronies meeting with nothing but dumb-headed misunderstanding. I see a genuine respect between he and his fans, with the brain-dead wannabees getting their just treatment. Sure, Cross's act is not perfect, and he really could stand to reign himself in, but he is NOT condescending. He's speaking for people who share his views and sensibilities, wherever they may have grown up.

And who are the snobs? The editors of the magazine.

Who says smart comedy is the exclusive property of New York anyway? Smart comedy has long been produced by "outsiders" of all stripes, be they from New York, Canada, Chicago, or--yes--Atlanta. Recall Cross asking which line was for the beer?

"I don't know, Faggot" was the response.

That's the kind of experience that makes a comedian.

I personally think New Yorkers like Tyco's Dennis Kozlowski and Scott Sullivan of WorldCom and all the other CEOs who steal millions and millions of dollars and put families out on the streets are far more loathsome than a bunch of fucking celebrities some guy doesn't like.

What a tool.

the paragraph on david was totally off-point, but i definately thought that some of the other critiques were hilarious. being a new yorker myself, i can see the points on some of them, but on david's it seems that the writer is just spoiling for a fight and doesn't appreciate cerebral humor.

God, what fucking retarded assholes! They dont get his humor, so they bash him for it. Lets blow up New York, we'll get Mr.Wiggles the monkey to launch the missle.

I'm sure David dosent care about it though, it just gives him one more reason to do what he does best.
