View Full Version : Favorite Mr. Show Sketch

09-02-2003, 12:13 AM
This is obviously hard to pick, for any Mr. Show fan...
but the one that comes to mind right now is the infomercial sketch, w/ the Fantabulous Superpan

"The superpan was developed by astronauts from NASA who quit the space program to develop pans":D

09-03-2003, 12:25 AM
Man, that's a really hard one, there are so many to choose from. I guess if I had to pick, I'd say the Van Hammersly skit from Season 2 Episode 4 is my favorite. Bob just does a perfect job on that one.

09-03-2003, 02:02 AM
hell yeah, the telling of the 1934 Kentucky Derby was awesome

but you cant forget the "Take back the Streets" w/ the F. F. Woodycooks and his Crimestick

i love how he randomly yelled out "CRIME"

09-03-2003, 02:04 AM
that was me who just posted.. i forgot to log in DUUH

09-03-2003, 10:05 PM
his name is........ME!

09-03-2003, 10:51 PM
what about "TITANICA...NO WAY..YAAAAY!"

09-04-2003, 02:19 PM
haha, that one's excellent, but not nearly my fav. Another good moment is at the end of the episode with the porno shop and 3+1-1 (I think its 3 on season 1, but can't remember right now) at the end there is a hidden camera parody, and Jay is having tea with 2 plastic rabbits and yelling at them. Its priceless.

09-04-2003, 04:43 PM
the one we watched lasy night, is the one w/ the monks against the rich fat kids camp

the best part is when David Cross cuts that fats kids neck and the blood just poors down

09-04-2003, 08:15 PM
I'll go from each season with the first thing that comes to mind:

Season 1: "Globo Chem" Advertisting Presentation Featuring "Pit Pat" the pansexual spokescreature

Season 2: The last donut (keep the chonge)

Season 3: "Druggachusettes"

Newish fan so I haven't seen season 4 yet. :(

09-04-2003, 10:46 PM
Those are definately some great picks man.........

09-09-2003, 12:23 AM
"hey there pot brownies.."

09-15-2003, 11:24 AM
i think my favorite skit would be "Best Friend's Marriage Announcement" (hey everyone, kate and i are getting married)

but my friend who is too lazy to register says "the story of the story of the story of everest"

09-15-2003, 07:51 PM

09-15-2003, 07:56 PM
hell yeah

F F Woodycooks

Choo Choo
09-17-2003, 02:52 AM
"Change for a dollar" skit ALWAYS cracks me up!

"fuckface, hows the golf."
"stop needlin me you prick."

the look on davids face while hes hanging up.....LMAO!
i do that when i hang up now

09-18-2003, 01:32 PM
Hey everyone, newbie to this website.. I would definitely have to pick Bob Lamonta and Ronnie Dobbs the musical.. It is tough to decide there are so many.

09-18-2003, 01:39 PM
sheet yah,
"last donut" was my second favorite. i love how he had blood running out of his ear!
but i think the one i laughed the hardest was the "probings: monster parties". that prof. of folk lore was jacking off! and he was washing his underwear in the sink!

09-18-2003, 06:32 PM
does anyone remember the sketch where Bob is an old timey hunter and telkling a story using pornographic words? They find out he doesnt really know what words mean and just puts random words together or something

09-19-2003, 05:12 PM
Yeah I remember that one. They think he doesn't know what the words mean, then he opens his coat to show that he has weird body parts. It transitions to a boy selling newspapers announcing a guy with four scrotums, or something. Then, it has the News Team that's been working together for about 70 years.

I love The Audition. Brilliant.
The Pre-Taped Call In Show, also brilliant.
And I really like the Intervention. "HOly Shit! You guys are going to kill me!"

"Yeah. We didn't want you to find out this way."

"We wanted you to find out by us killing you."

09-19-2003, 10:37 PM
"probings: monster parties".

That was the first one that came to my mind.

"The mummy's drunk and he loves to fuck"

famous mortimer
09-19-2003, 10:54 PM
The hat trick...

"Racist in the Year 3000"

"Cloning Hitler"

09-20-2003, 03:19 PM
You got the goods!!!

Superstar Machine has to be my favorite.

09-20-2003, 06:09 PM
Alright--a favourite sketch is hard to pin down, but two of my favourite moments are:
1) The sock-cam at the end of the trailer for "Coupon-the Movie"
2) When Bob Odenkirk's character breaks down in the diner in "The Recruiters" and suddenly announces that he's going to run away from his gramma's house because he hates it there.

09-21-2003, 05:35 AM
the 3rd wheel gives me a boner.

but the milking machine made me cum.

50 gallons to be precise.

09-22-2003, 08:54 AM
Jeepers Creepers, Semi-Star starring Jack Black.

"Noooooooo! I was on the 18th hole!"

09-22-2003, 01:24 PM
NAMBLA: We're not killers! (classicly wrong).

The New Klan was also on that episode.

There really aren't any skits that weren't funny. The strange thing about Mr. Show is you can keep watching it over and over again, and it's like it gets funnier every time you watch it.

09-22-2003, 05:42 PM
" i just need to get some quarters for the booth"

the same sketch also had the classic quote "whats this..its a box of big black dildos!"

09-23-2003, 04:01 PM
"Don't blame the dildos!"

Hey everyone! So glad to see people who truly enjoy Mr. Show!

I forgot about "The Audition." Pure genius!

I gotta say, one of my favorites is "Philousa." "A little too much of Mr. Grahams crackers?!?" Jay as Mediocrity, beautiful...

09-23-2003, 04:41 PM
Without a doubt my favorite was Dickey Crickets, king of the megaphone crooners

09-23-2003, 07:08 PM
"have you ever derailed a train w/ your penis, and then eaten it piece by piece?"

09-23-2003, 10:47 PM
yeah...oh jeez...i like the one where the guy with the bald hair is all like walking the balloon..."You need to stay with you redish balloon"....thats what the song says....

and the one about Blow jobs....its all like...."The society in which we live is run by people that have built it on top of blow jobs"....:o  :o

09-23-2003, 11:39 PM
My favorite skit is Mountain Dougie. THat one always makes me laugh. I mean, he puts his DOG on house arrest. Thats crazy! And then he hires "a nice lady from the city." hahaha i bet that wasn't even a lady!

Saw Dummy Mark
09-24-2003, 08:07 PM
I think the skit that made me laugh the MOST when I first saw it was the fake commercials one from the first season, you know with pit-pat, but more specifically, the Ding-Dong burger commercial.

A close second is in the first episode when David ditches Bob in the street to go to the party, and he's like "see ya later, ya sack a sh*t!". Then he goes "shut the f*ck up man! you want him to hear us?"..and you know how it goes. I would love to do that to someone that has angered me.

09-24-2003, 11:26 PM
who does he think he is? Ronnie fuckin Dobbs?

09-25-2003, 01:20 AM
"Pat-Pif, Globochemistrys new spokesperson man!!!!!!"

09-25-2003, 04:18 PM
1. F. F. Woodycook's Taking back the streets
2. The monsters of Megaphone Crooning
3. the Lie Detector Test
4. The Video Complaints (Bob and Brian are fucking hilarious)
5. HBO's Creepy Peeping Videos

Also, The Coupon the Movie Greenlight meaning is one of the best skits on the show.

09-25-2003, 05:36 PM
man, one of my alltime favorites was when Bob was the news reporter and David was the news anchor
" Harmon, this is Briggs, what exactly do we know so far?

"There is nothing at this point"

"Harmon, this is Briggs, how much do we know?"

"Look man, im not hiding anything from you there is nothing new to report"

"Harmon this is Briggs, is there a time frame?"

"some time between now and a million years, look, what do you want from me?"

09-25-2003, 07:12 PM

"I don't know! Maybe this tree knows! Tree, can you predict the future for me?"

09-25-2003, 08:10 PM
NO? Can i check back w/ you every 5 minutes untill you do?

09-26-2003, 10:10 AM
I was hoping the skit with the duelling groceries' commercials was going to be in season three. Know the one I mean?

09-26-2003, 10:47 AM
Yes! I love the dueling grocers, and the dueling Great Guys. (Harrison Greely III)

09-26-2003, 02:00 PM
The "Old man in House for four days" skit with David as The Negotiator and Tom as the Old man almost amde me piss myself.

I also LOVED the scene where Tom is about to hit the pope lover, GREAT TV MOMENT. The reaction of David's is fucking hilarious.

09-26-2003, 03:08 PM
i loved the skit w/ the blind girl and David and Bob came over to read to her, then it turned out David was blind and she wasnt

09-26-2003, 03:25 PM
1. Slacker Racism
2. Drunk Cops
3. The unofficial biography or Mr. show.

"Dear Globochem, someone is trying to kill me. Please send me as many free products as possible. Love, David Cross"

09-28-2003, 10:50 PM
Pratt Promise#1 I am not a lawyer!
Pratt Promise#2 I do not want to have sex with you.
Pratt Promise#3 You don't have to ask me to leave.
(and something else too, but I'm tired).
That shit cracks my ass up at the end when he's waiting for the phone to ring.

gerald hennessy
09-29-2003, 03:59 AM
has anyone mentioned the one about the two tough guys in the bar who won't back down "fuckin' guys..." brilliant

"my life..."

09-29-2003, 07:25 PM
they get married and shit, then the fight...classic

remember when David was dying from Entitilitus, and he got to play guitar in front of 1000 fans, because his mother called ahead

09-29-2003, 10:00 PM
I also loved "seventies movies classics: bare ambition & Streak-dome 97"

gerald hennessy
09-29-2003, 11:21 PM
my favorite part is where bob is mowing the lawn--stomping around (kinda like a big dumb actor)--he looks so pissed.

09-30-2003, 02:55 AM
all i have to say is..."I'm strong..like the hulk!" In other words..."Why me? The Bob Lamonta story"

09-30-2003, 01:54 PM
1. Let's Blow up the moon
2. Marshall, the 13th apostle
3. Coupon: The Trial (IT WAS A BABY!!!)
4. San fransisco : the globochem way

also, david's character did not have entitulitus in that episode, he had I.D.S. - Imminent death syndrome. Dobbs had entitilitus.

Adam Jimmy
09-30-2003, 04:25 PM
Anything where Bob Dances, I.E. Change for a Dollar, The Dr X. Telethon, but over all, it may be "No Adults Allowed"

gerald hennessy
09-30-2003, 05:00 PM
"can i use this chair? i need it... for the scene" lol

09-30-2003, 05:46 PM
Bob should run for president. at every time he does a TV ad, he can use a character. You win the people with humor.

09-30-2003, 09:52 PM
I couldn't pick just one favorite skit so I will do my favorite from every season

Season 1: Change for a dollar
Season 2:Superpan(That is easily the best episode of the first 2 seasons
Season 3:"America Will Blow up the Moon"
Season 4: I haven't seen it yet... waiting for the DVD!!!

Mr. Show is easily one of the top 5 shows of all time. And to the guy who earlier said that "Keep the Chonge is the best skit of season two is waaay off!! Thats not even the best skit of that episode. Megaphone Crooners would take that award.

...Now I just found out my best friend has cancer... Its just that it really sucks for the guy thats all. Now you got it too

10-13-2003, 12:50 AM
The founding fathers sketch with Tom as Brooklyn Lincoln is classic.

As is F.F. Woodycooks (especially for anyone who every actually saw J.J. Bittenbinder's show).

10-13-2003, 02:57 PM

1. The battle of the supermarkets.
2. Bob's face at the fat kid in the monk room.
3. The commercial battle of the 2 good guys
4. The Vietnam movie, forgot what it was where both bob and david get shot!
5. the Actor trainer
6. teh investigative report on the investigative report.
7. We need a good blowjob.

10-13-2003, 05:38 PM
I always liked the end of that one episode with
"Blah blah bla, im a big dumb actor on stage, i yell the loudest, look at me.."

10-16-2003, 03:25 PM
Here's an add on from my previous post cuz i'm too lazy to edit.

1.The battle of the supermarkets. (we HAVE apples/ The Fairleys promise: your child will not be sold into prostitution in thailand)
2. Bob's face at the fat kid in the monk room. (Rappity Rap!)
3. The commercial battle of the 2 good guys
4. The Vietnam movie, forgot what it was where both bob and david get shot!
5. the Actor trainer
6. the investigative report on the investigative report.
7. We need a good blowjob.
8. The story OF the story OF the story of Mt. Everest
9.The weatherman's theme song
10. The Duke of Dukes impersonator.

10-17-2003, 12:30 PM
God I don't think I can pick just one. I could probably give my top seven (that's a nice random number)

In no particular order:

1) Grass Valley Greg
2) Monster Mash
3) Droopy (keep the chaaange)
4) The streaking movie
5) The Beatles parody with the angry feminists
6) Thrill World/Thank you for the ride
7) The new KKK

I could probably go on forever and ever. I think the fact that each show was only a half hour and they only did a limited number of shows per season really allowed them to distill everything down to the best material. Off the top of my head I can't think of a skit that I DIDN'T like. They ranged from being at worst very funny to at best just draw droppingly brilliant.

It's funny-- I can't think of anything else in pop culture that has brought me as much sheer joy as Mr. Show. Weird that a TV program can have such an awesome effect. And unlike other very good comedy shows i.e. Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show has a tremendous shelf life. I've seen every episode from the first three seasons (now that they're on DVD) about a hundred times and I still laugh my ass off.

10-17-2003, 12:38 PM
OK-- I have to add The Pre-Taped Call In show. That was so god damned insipired, and I think what makes it an exercise in comedy perfection is David Cross's performance. Not only is he just hilarious, he's a damned fine actor.

10-17-2003, 05:05 PM
they talked at times how some sketchs were great for a live audience, but not so good for TV. I thought that one( the pre-taped call in show) was perfect any way you watch it.

10-18-2003, 03:43 AM
i'll give my top 5 (in no particular order)

1-Worthington's Law/Value Magazine
2-The Joke: The Musical
3-The Bad News Breakers
4-24 Is The Highest Number There Is
5-The 3rd Wheel Legend

Pit Pat
10-20-2003, 08:16 PM
In no particular order:

-Let's blow up the moon (especially Bob's country music videos with the fake beard, the greenscreen in the background with the American flag, the spastic camera, and the wink, oh God, the wink)

-The altered state of Drugachusetts (introduced by Bob & David as a thinly-veiled parody of Sid & Marty Kroft and their 70s' puppet shows for kids. They get the look, the music, and the set down so well it's scary, as well as hilarious.) This whole sketch was just brilliant.

-The ad men (with Pit Pat)

-The Ronnie Dobbs story

-Superpan (and anything else with Bob affecting a British accent)

-Senator Tankerbell at the Country Fair and Jam Festival

Honorable mention goes to Jay Johnston's "Hurkey Jerkey Man Dance" at the Candy Adams talent agency.

Pit Pat
10-22-2003, 09:02 PM
I am disappointed in everyone, especially myself, that no one mentioned the ventriloquist's East Coast - West Coast rivalry. The file footage of the high school kids hanging out wearing plaid suits and holding dummies was classic.

10-22-2003, 11:43 PM
My favorites would have to be:

The pretaped call in show
The Rapist
the goodfellas parody (i forget what it's called)

oh man, I started this list and I just realized that there are too damn many of them to name. The entire series was incredible.

10-23-2003, 08:55 AM
I forgot about Creepy Peeping Videos. That always makes me convulse with laughter. John Ennis is sooooooo good in that one.

10-23-2003, 09:22 AM
Pre-Taped Call-In Show
Creepy Peeping Video
Mountain Dougie
Fat Camp
Mt. Everest
The Bob Lamotta Story
Blow Up The Moon

Damn, there is just too many great sketches...

10-23-2003, 08:27 PM
come on, ya'll gotta admit Pallies was awesome

"Shut your 'mother father' mouth!"

10-25-2003, 05:19 AM
I didn't see anyone mention the homosexual heavy metal group--were they called "Wicked Sceptre"?

gerald hennessy
10-25-2003, 06:07 PM
I think that wyked scepter (SP?) is everyone's favorite, sort of--by default so it's just assumed that you have to pick another as your favorite (does that make any sense?).

10-25-2003, 11:44 PM
Get off my land?

10-27-2003, 11:17 PM
I would definately have to say my favorite episode was Jeepers Creepers Semi-Star, the parody with Jack Black. It was a really funny, deep look into slacker culture. I just recently watched Mr Show (the second(?)season on DVD) for the first time. I love David Cross, but I just don't know about that Bob guy.

Sharwood Lish
10-28-2003, 01:58 AM
Hmmm...very hard indeed. Here are some favorates in no particular order:

1. "It's just a...a... whispering snowman..."
2. The whole Menocu sketch
3. Les Balloons Sportif!
4. The Bob Lamonta Story
5. The "Monster Mash" sketch
6. And finally, probably the funniest scene in Mr. Show history....when Tom is possessed in the "Wee-Time Toddler Wear Sales Meeting".

Hear hear!

10-28-2003, 06:23 PM
I always loved that quick conversion sketch when the news anchor team broke the news to everyone that they were getting a divorce. Tex Mex stands out:D

10-31-2003, 03:29 AM
I don't know if I have an actual favorite...

I loved the series of sketches with the battle of the supermarkets where the guy was forced to sell from his truck at the end.

The Teardrop Awards

There are many many others but those are probably my favorites.

11-01-2003, 03:31 AM
Druggachusetts, hands down.... Jeepers Creepers in close second... SPANK!!!!... the "no adults allowed" one is freakin hilarious.... "Oh, you men" is my favorite episode

11-01-2003, 02:17 PM
1st season - Traveling salesman musical w/ Jack Black
2nd - Van Hammersly
3rd - Ventriloquists East coast vs. west
4th - Mississippi fun bus -or- Civil War reenactment

it's just way too hard to choose just one.

I have so many favorites that I can't pick one, but one that I'm always floored by is the first Streaker movie. Seeing David's hairy ass crack is probably the single scaries thing ever to show up on HBO (and THAT'S saying something!).

12-31-2003, 05:15 PM
1. John Baptiste Philouza

2. The Pre-Taped Call In Show

Come on, people. These are CLASSICS.

12-31-2003, 06:20 PM
The Pre-Taped Call In Show was brilliant. Very hilarious.

I also loved:
Adopted Son
Supermodel Calling Service
Lie Detector
Young People and Their Companions (also brilliant)
Secret Love
and The Ex-Siamese Twins

to name a few more.

12-31-2003, 06:41 PM
Well, as mein namen suggests, the Dougie/NewFreeland sketch is right up there for me. I also like the out-ro on "Goin' on a Holiday", where the cast looks collectively "valium'd the fucked out".

Oh yeah, and any of the scenes with Bob doing "Droopy". "So did you see Sanford & Son last night?" Heh.

And of course, ChooChoo. Goddammit I love Jay Johnston...
