Just saw an ad for a show called "Crossballs" on Comedy Central. Based on the ad, I'm not expecting much from it. I hope they can prove me wrong. It features Mr. Show & SNL alum Jerry Minor as well as the UCB's Matt Besser, who also acts as one of the Exec. Producers. You can probably figure out from the title that it's a parody of shows like "Hardball" and "Crossfire". Here's the press release (http://www.comedycentral.com/press/pressreleases/release.jhtml?f=06_14_04_Crossballs_premiere.xml).

Interesting, and according to imdb.com, Jay's in the credited cast! I know how much we all love Jay!

HEY I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A SHOW!

LET'S MAKE IT LIKE ONE OF THOSE POLITICAL DEBATE SHOWS BUT INSTEAD OF POLITICAL PEOPLE WE'LL USE... GET THIS: COMEDIANS!

OH WAIT THAT'S BEEN DONE 7000000 TIMES BEFORE

And it's been funny 6999999 times. That one unfunny time was very disapointing

So I guess Colin Quinn is off the air now?

Good.

it'd be nice if he was off the air, but it'd be even better if he was in the ground.

With all sincerity I really don't understand why people are so anit Colin. I don't think his show is brilliant or groundbreaking, but I find it one of the few enjoyable shows on comedy central at this time.

HE IS THE DIE FROM WHICH ALL OTHER HACK COMICS ARE CAST.

"Tough Crowd" is an ok show, but Colin Quinn is, strangely enough, the weak link. He has TERRIBLE timing for a comedian, and often ruins smart would be funny jokes with his slurred approach.
But the show has its moments, and some of the comedians featured are really funny

Colin Quinn would be funnier if he changed his name to Pauly Shore....

(look for a thread about Pauly shore elsewhere, not under Cast)

Give the guy a break. Is he funny, not intentionally, but he has a certain uncomfortable shouldn't be speaking in front of a camera or people for that matter charm. The show is people who are marginally funny trying to out funny each other. It's politically incorrect for morons. I find it entertaining. Fuck am I a moron. And every once in a while actual funny comics are on the show and you can see how pissed they are to be there. And the die which all hack comics are cast from is definitely Richard Lewis.

Richard Lewis is more of a hack than Colin Quinn? You, sir, are out of your fucking mind.
Lewis' appearances on Letterman in the 80's are classic - he was a man teetering on a ledge between sanity and insanity....literally. And Dave would just fuck with him for his own amusement. THAT was good television, folks.

I'm not saying Richard is more of a hack, just that if I were to pick in my opinion the epitome of the hack comic it would be richard lewis. Just because he was insane and Dave played off of that doesn't mean he himself is a good comic. Dave was great Richard was not.

Get back in the wood chiper.

I really don't know why I'm defending Colin.

I do. Because you're secretly attracted to Mr. Quinn. Go on - admit it. You'd love to blow Colin Quinn.

If you love him so much, why don't you marry him?

They should change the show to "Jim Norton presents the Jim Norton Show starring Jim Norton and friends of Jim Norton brought to you by Jim Norton" because he is the only redeeming thing about that show.

What am I wrong about exactly. Tough Crowd being an okay show or that Richard Lewis couldn't follow Gallager.

I'm willing to except that I'm wrong I just want to know what I'm wrong about. So I can learn from my mistakes and try to be a better person.

Also, it was neither of the points you mentioned. Tough Crows can be a decent show when they have decent comics (read: Norton) on. And Richard Lewis does come off as kind of hackish. You're correct about those two things.

What you're wrong about is your assertion that there is anyone on the face of the fucking planet who can fuck up a joke as bad as Colin Quinn. He's like the kid in 7th grade who would always try to tell jokes but he'd wind up giving away the punchline in the first sentence and then going back and trying to fix him. He's worse than Richard Lewis. Hands down.

richard lewis bugs me. i saw him live about a year ago and he was boo'd off the stage. he hasnt written anything new since the 80's.
im not really sure what it is that bugs me about colin quin's show. probably that nobody ever finishes a sentence. and if they do, it rarely gets a laugh. even norton barely gets a laugh on the show. and then they're all talking at once and no one ever makes a point. they just take turns throwing in michael jackson and viagra jokes. and watching colin quin, youre kind of hoping for him to say something clever. anything. you feel bad for him. i think thats why he was successful in the first place.
