Rick Shapiro is amazing. I saw him a few times at Sidewalk in NYC. It's never the same, and he flows from one subject to another doing voices and characters like a mad man. Actually, he is cleary and legitimately mad. He's a former crack/heroin addict, and I saw him tell a story about how he once sucked a guys dick for a burrito. It's amazing he's still alive. His act is full of truth and danger, not the kind of fake danger that is packaged promoted on Comedy Centra, but real danger that makes you want to knock over the table and get behind it to protect yourself. Although, depending on the night, he can be a total audience pleaser or a provocateur, you just never know. Nice to see people posting about him. He's also in many Louis CK projects.

I was performing at NYCC one night and he was in the next room. I snuck over and watched him. Unbelievable live. Simply amazing. Absolutely visceral, punishing comedy. He used to host a weekly show at Bowery Poetry Club downtown until he started on Louis CK's show. You know that quote from Bill Hicks about being the flaming sword of Shiva? That's him.

I watched this video and it kinda blew my mind. He appears to be possesed or channeling someone or something.
Feel free to shit on me for saying it but his delivery reminds me a bit of old Robin Williams only it's not goofy like Williams was. It's that random, hyper, stream of conciousness thing. It's like he replaced the goofyness with contempt.
Maybe I'm full of shit. I'll be getting that DVD though.
